Department of Commerce (Unaided)
The Commerce Department was started in the year 1975 with one section aided by the government offering B.Com for both men and women. Due to the increased demand for seats by women students, and as the mission of the founder and the college was to offer maximum facilities for women students, a second section was started exclusively for women students in the commerce department to accommodate them.
The management introduced the postgraduate course in commerce in the year 1981 to encourage the students to continue their higher education in our institution, under the aided stream. The post graduate commerce department was elevated by the management into a full fledged research department in 1987 fulfilling the requirements for research prescribed by the university. The department offers full time M.Phil. and Ph.D programmes to enable our students continue their education and research in the same campus under the guidance of the same faculty.
The department of commerce was expanded with a section in the evening college, which is a self-financed course. The department of commerce included BBA as an additional course to cater to those students interested in Business administration in the year 1998. As there was a further demand for B.Com, Bank management, the course was introduced in the year 2002.
The commerce department has research committee, which meets at regular intervals and formulates the relevant research work that can be under taken at the different levels and allot the same to the students involved in research.
As computer science has become a part of the curriculum with the introduction of the CBCS pattern of education by the university, the undergraduates are equipped with adequate computer exposure through the theory and practical classes they attend.
